You may have seen the news about the new Wegovy pill — the oral weight loss tablet that's been all over the media this week. We wanted to give you our honest, clinical take on it so you have the full picture. 💊
The headlines are exciting, but here's what they're leaving out:
🔹 The Wegovy pill contains semaglutide — the same active ingredient as Rybelsus, which has been available as an oral tablet for over 6 years. The main difference is a higher dose (25mg).
🔹 Average weight loss in trials was 13.6–16.6% — meaningful, but significantly less than Mounjaro's 20–22.5%. These are not comparable treatments.
🔹 The higher dose comes with a notably higher rate of nausea and vomiting — something worth knowing before starting.
🔹 Where it does shine: no injections, no refrigeration needed, and a strong option for maintaining weight loss after injectable therapy.
The bottom line? A useful option for the right person — but Mounjaro remains the gold standard for maximum results.
